The Vineyard Newsletter - March at The Vineyard
The Vineyard

The Artful Winemaker:

Some of us are getting older (yes it’s true) and handling the 23 litre carboy and fermenter is just too much. Now we have the answer.

The Vineyard is very proud to launch the Artful Winemaker.  It is a very compact fermenting system that will produce 12 bottles of fine wine in only 28 days. This system is a compact one vessel system that comes with everything you need (except the 12 bottles). It is also very clean and attractive looking; so it can sit on your kitchen counter and fits in with any décor. It is an excellent alternative for apartment dwellers as well.

Orange Blossom and Wildflower Honey

Turns out our Beer Geek is also somewhat of a mead maker. Last year the he pulled down several golds, sliver and bronze medals in western Canada. A gold medal in Regina last year landed our Beer Geek one of only 6 Canadian qualifying spots for mead makers in the National homebrew competition in San Diego. Just a few short weeks ago our beer geek took Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for his meads and ciders at the Cowtown Yeastwranglers 4th annual homebrew round up. So the secret to award winning mead? Top quality unpasturized organic honey. In North america there are only two places with a large enough number of trees to procure orange blossom honey and that is California or Florida. Ours comes directly from orange tree orchards in the California Valley and has the unmistakable floral aroma of orange blossoms that makes for a very unique mead. This also where we source our wildflower honey from. Award winning meads require careful handling of the honey to protect the delicate aromas as well as pH and nutrition management. The Vineyard carries everything you need to make award winning mead including the expertise.

Hops: East Kent Golding and Zythos

Finally we have the popular East Kent Golding hops back in stock - sorry for the delay.

Following the success of the Falconer’s Flight™, we are very happy to introduce ZYTHOS™ ─ a proprietary hop blend created to embody the powerful tradition and aroma you expect for your finest ales and IPA brews. With targeted brewing values of 11.9% alpha and 5.0% beta, ZYTHOS is an IPA style blend created to optimize and exceed the aroma characteristics found in the finest American IPA's and Pale ales (and any other hoppy American style). ZYTHOS is not a replacement for proprietary varieties, but rather, a premium pellet blend that will compliment your current IPA and Pale Ale brews. We have done some test batches with samples I recieved earlier this year from Hop Union and found aromatic qualities, imparting distinct tangerine, citrus, floral, pine and grapefruit tones remenisant of blending Amarillo and Simco. Here is a nice recipe that features the Zythos hop to get you started . If you come up with an outstanding recipe and want it posted send it in. The best recipe submission that I recieve in April will win some Zythos hops.
